Google Lays Off 100 Recruiters; Planning to Lay off 10,000 Employees
Its not the small businesses anymore. Even the Giants like Google are feeling the pinch of a recession. Google in its efforts to cut HR related expenses has decided to layoff about 100 people worldwide. Although they are cutting jobs and releasing employees the cutting, so far, has been around the edges. This time it’s different because the company is cutting into its own staff

Google said on Wednesday, that it is laying off all recruiters. This is about one-quarter of the total number of recruiters currently hired by the company — Google has a workforce of 20 thousand. This move means it is slashing 1% of it’s workforce.

Why Google is doing this? Google is hiring fewer people than it used to — a lot fewer — so it needs fewer recruiters to get the job done.
According to the Google official blog, Laszlo Bock, vice president for HR , said: “Google is still hiring but at a reduced rate. Given the state of the economy, we recognized that we needed fewer people focused on hiring.”

A Human Resource Blog is Born
As integral part of my job, I have been headhunting since I was first promoted into a management position. Then as I progressed through corporate corridors and moved from a cubical to cabin to a corner room and then to a room with a view. I had my share of HR Managers and Recruiters and Employees and Applicants. I did few HR courses that provided me nothing except the opportunity to travel around the globe and make new friends.
For 2 years, I remained part of an HR Firm as their Chief Technology Officer and then Its Managing Director. During those two years I learned a lot about HR and the whole Job Market. I really fell in love with that.
My career moved to business consulting later( which I still do ). Human Resource and its management remains a major part of my consulting efforts.
During all this chaos, I had a chance to be-friend with many great people. Headhunters mostly. They are amazing people indeed. Given adequate resources and time, they can deliver anybody. This blog is dedicated to those friends. I will be seeking their help in posting here.
For start, I would like to review blogs around the globe regardless of their topic to network with people. The focus, however, will remain on Jobs, employment and everything related to it like
- Job Market News
- Review Of Job Search Engines
- Online Job Opportunities
- Career Advice
- HR Policies and Best Practices
