Part Time And Summer Jobs For Students
As our generation is born, grow with rapid potential, and when we arrive at a stage where being 18 years of age is the limelight of life’s journey. It’s the age when you have partial authority, partial rights, and above all the opportunity to obtain your driver’s license. Since so many opportunities rise for us as soon as the clock ticks 12am on the day of your birthday along with all the well wishing, cards and birthday cake comes along a line of responsibility, maturity and authority.
Since our needs are increasingly growing and the potential for our parents to support the many desires and wants we envelope is becoming a mere impossibility. Therefore, if we are being given rights, authorities and responsibility to act like adults. Than there should be no hesitation to take up jobs to not only lessen your parents’ burden but to also support the many innovative needs which arise through our influential friends.
While hunting for jobs keep in mind that you have to be not only mentally prepared to take on the burden in worst times but to be also physically challenged as you juggle school, extra curriculum activities, family time and friends. A job should provide you the flexibility to handle and manage all these activities together and provide a healthy balance so that life doesn’t become a living hell for you.
Another obstacle which comes along high school students is their lack of experience and qualification upon which don’t be disgusted or go green from sickness if you are expected to clean bathrooms. At this intermediate level of life you cannot expect to get a reputable desk job which will engross you a 6 figure income. Stop seeing stars in the day and be a little more realistic. However possible suggestion provided can be your course of choosing a job.
Part-Timers
High school students have zero percent chances of acquiring a full time job. How is that possible? You will clearly be missing out on school the most important and essential foundation required for your education to take into its real form. So missing out on school stands on no chance and I don’t think your parents will even consider allowing you to fall into your own pit of mess.
While being a high school student looking for jobs which offer part-time, flexible hours can be difficult so that school hours aren’t damaged. Keep in mind that though these jobs don’t pay handsome but provide enough for you to spend on gas bills, cell phone bills and other personal miscellaneous expenses. Students can work up to 10-12 hours in a week and it is advisable that if this sounds to combusted for you pick weekends which can allow you to work late and probably pitch in overtime now and then. Most jobs will tend to pay through piece rate method since most jobs are hourly pitched.
Never forget that passing out high school and being a high school graduate is essential and vital. So don’t miss out on homework and other extra curriculum activities since these can get you scholarships for universities, therefore don’t volunteer for late hours at night. Not only will it tire you but also isn’t safe for you. For further guidance and approval approach your guidance counselor, who can also provide you with possible outcomes for jobs and a specific job which is fit for your personality and stamina as all differ from each other no one job may suit 2 people or more.
Examples of part-time jobs range from sales rep at retail stores, pizza deliveries, waitress/waiters at restaurants to cashiers at grocery stores/pump stations, nannies for your neighbors, attendees for the movie theater etc.
Summer Jobs
Summer is a great time for students to obtain full time jobs and earn like money making machines. With the craze of classes, homework, projects, exams and assignments out of the way, it provides ample time of relaxation and ease to conduct jobs. However, since every individual differs from each other, some may prefer to stick to their part-time jobs and enjoy their vacations, sign up for courses, of prepare for college.
Summer is the time where ample amounts of experience can be gained for your field of expertise. Potential summer jobs lie in places such as retail groceries, restaurant and food services, administrative and clerical jobs, or even working as a temp can prove to be an enriching experience. Though at this level, duties assigned to you may seem to you as of little importance but it’s a kick start for the tough ride you will face during your college life and then as post graduate since job hunting will be no less difficulty than it is now.
Summer Internships
Students who are out on the search to gain real insight and experience from working should apply for internships. Internships not only look impressive on your resume but also provide you credits while applying for college. However it is not that easy to land an internship with large waves of students trying to get their hands on them too. Remember that one can appear for an internship if only certain credit hours have been completed or some sort of coursework been conducted related to your major or job.
Internships can be obtained through a stream of sources, this could include your parents, friends and relatives, your school and neighbors, search the internet and contact your local communities. Another alternative can be taking part in a research internship which your high school will provide you. They are likely to talk in their organization and plead for a placement as an internee in that company. Usually not an easy job since a number of organization isn’t keen on adding another employee whether that be a temp on their already doubled force of workers.
However, there a large chances of getting one if you are interested in an unpaid internship, that is if you’re not in it for the money, but in it for the experience. Than who wouldn’t want to hire you since you would be working for free for them. It is also advisable to accept unpaid internship because they not only enhance your knowledge of how the business world works but also enhances your personality, your self-confidence too.
Examples of companies willing and welcoming students for internships are Microsoft, Science & Engineering research at Berkeley lab, NASA, John Hopkins materials research Science and Engineering and Progenics pharmaceutical.
All geared up to shift into the driver’s seat?
So now the decision stand for you to take up a job to support your expenses or be lazy, pampered children of your parents. Look out for other options available to you and conduct a hell of research to find the suitable kind of job for you. There is no point of continuing a job in which you come back home frowning and return to school with heavy dark circles scaring your friend into thinking you’re on to drugs. Go through your options and develop an early interest in this ground so that people wanting to help put their heart and soul too to help you out.
If you’re considering these jobs as being too low for your status, so than just remember you now have the authority to make decisions for yourself. Don’t end up regretting anything in your life because of your spoiled brats mind. Any work experience will benefit you somewhere down the lane in future. You never know what job may bring what wonders to you and surprise you out of your pajamas.
