People Who Work On Christmas Day
Most of us on get up on Christmas morning in a very happy mood, while the kids are always much anxious to open their presents.
But there are so many people for whom Christmas Day is just the same like any other working day. When I started writing about the people who work on this holiday, at the beginning i thought that the list about such people will be small but when I started writing it grew long.
The Christmas Day operation involves the widest range of occupations, lets start from the commercial airports. On airports there are different people who are helping the people to make last minute connections with their families and loved ones, on air airport from baggage handlers to security people, from pilots to controllers everyone is involved.
Aside from planes local transportation networks are also operating on holiday schedule. The bus drivers, train engineers and conductors, and even taxi drivers are helping the people to get where they need to go.
On Christmas Holiday you wont find any full service grocery store opened thanks to that volunteers at Redwood City’s Safeway at Sequoia Station for opening the stores so that you can get necessary items which you might need for a holiday feast.
Power supply department workers will present on their jobs on holiday to make sure that there wont be any failure of electricity or to tackle down any functional fault. Same like that waste treatment plant will be having its full crew because our digestive systems and dishwashers don’t have any holiday.
There is no day off at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s local weather offices also because media, military and farmers depends on their predictions, that’s because of their previous experiences that many of rainy season’s worst storms begin to come in around Christmastime. As this year 2009 is an EI Nino year means more storms are expected. However many of their volunteer weather spotters takes day off on Christmas day.
Many years ago military and security personnel were having greatly relaxed day on Christmas but after 9/11 they are always on high alert on Christmas Day.
On a very special day like Christmas day still working far from loved ones really a meant a lot.
Police department will be having a minimum staff on street patrols but the traffic police will be having full staff present on Christmas day because on this day more drunk drivers and family disputes on this day.
There is day off for firemen also; they also work on Christmas day, because fire incidents are having no specific time to break out. That’s why even on such big a firefighter have to go on job.
As the older people gets so much sensitive and their feelings of loneliness get more on such holiday, so often they thinks about suicide to deal with this pain. For such people suicide hotlines are staffed everyday of the year including local and national lines.
Many people go to restaurants or stays in hotel on Christmas day, thanks to the staffs of those hotels and restaurants that they are working on Christmas day and because of that you are getting your best Christmas day.
The U.S. Postal Service is not having full staff on the Dec 25 but still they deliver express mail on that day. That’s like getting to play Santa.
TV channels and radio stations continues to broadcast on Christmas and entertaining the people without taking day off. While in printing media they are not having full staff because it rare to have any news breaking on Christmas day.
Plumbers and other service people are also available on Christmas day. And if they demand charge of their own choice doing repairing work in your home then that’s their right because they sacrificed their big day for your comfort.
