  • Change Your Route

It is a good idea to keep changing your route home. Especially, if you have had a bad or a very stressful day at work, take the long way home. On your way, utilize the first half of your journey home by thinking about what you have to accomplish at work and how you will go about it. And during the rest of the drive, turn on whatever music you like, and start thinking about other things outside of work. Do not think about work during this time and make sure you separate yourself from work before you get home!

  • The Boss At Work Does Not Equal The Boss At Home

It is common for people to remain in the same roles at home as they behave in their office. But it is important to remember that the people you live with are not paid to obey your command. If you love them, you will definitely treat them better than those that report to you.

  • Vent

After get home after work and kiss the kids, make sure to give yourself a 15-minute window to let it all out. Make the arrangement with your spouse that the first 15 min will be for you to let out all you have inside and during that time, they have to simply listen and let you get it out. After that, you must agree that work is over.

  • Blackberry/Laptop

One day or another, we all have to work at night or on the weekends no matter how much you run away from it. But you have to be honest. If you really don’t need to work, keep the electronics off. Don’t login just because you are curious.

  • Questions First

Listening is as important as talking it out. Thus immediately ask how your spouse’s day went as soon as you get home and listen to what they say.

  • Survival

Although it might seem unacceptable to you but be sure that your company will survive without you. You have to set your priorities and family is important. If you don’t really need to work, you have to resist the urge to get involved in something that isn’t that ultra-critical.

  • No Work, No Matter What

Although it may be difficult to practice, but it should be followed strictly. Make some time for yourself during the week when you simply won’t work no matter what. For example, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-10 PM I have sworn not to do work. This allows you to have some time for yourself.

  • Get Up Earlier

The earlier you get up, the earlier you’ll finish up your work. If you are always running out of time, take out time from yourself and not your family. Get work done while your family sleeps

Hopefully, these things will help you to cope up with stress at work and family pressure at home. Always remember that no job is worthy enough to cause any harm to your health and no matter how much you earn, the time you miss with your family will never come back. So, enjoy those smiles whenever you can.
