Interviewers perceive excessive smiling as a cover for nervousness and a lack of confidence. Thus it is better to give a thoughtful and pleasant expression. Smile only when there’s something to smile about. You can practice in front of a mirror or a friend to see which expression suits you best.

2. Don’t Be a Know-It-None

Be prepared when you go for an interview. You should do some homework and gather some information about the company for which you’re going for an interview. Instead of doing small talks, find ways to talk about serious subjects related to the industry or company.

3. Don’t Sweat

Dress carefully when going for an interview. It is easy to lose a job by wearing an undershirt or simply a little too much clothing. If you sweat, it will be seen as a sign of weakness and nervousness.


4. Put Down that Stop Sign

Interviewers are looking for candidates that are eager to take on challenging projects and jobs. Shy and Hesitant candidates give a negative impression.

5. Don’t Be a Sheeple

If you start by asking the location of the lunchroom or meeting room, the interviewer will take it as a lack of preparation and initiative on your side. Prepare well before the interview and avoid asking questions about routine elements or functions of a company such as where stuff is, the size of your cube and company policy on coffee breaks.

6. Don’t Be a Liar

Employees frequently lie in interviews, but it should be understood that lying won’t get you the job. During a job interview, even a slight exaggeration is considered as lying. Never ever stretch your resume or embellish accomplishments. One lie can ruin your entire interview, and the skilled interviewer will spot the lie and show you the door.

7. Don’t Be a Bad Comedian

Although it may be tempting to lead your interview with a joke, but it is important to remain careful. You probably will not know anything about the sense of humor of your interviewer, and making any joke that might be inappropriate for your interviewer may put you in a bad situation.

8. Don’t Be High Maintenance

Don’t be finicky about your workplace environment. If you start talking about the ideal office temperature, and how the water cooler needs to be filled with imported mineral water, chances are you’ll be shown a polite smile and the door, regardless of your qualifications. Nobody wants to hire someone who’s so fussy about their workplace.

9. Don’t Be A Minute Man

Chances are that you will be given a chance to ask some questions on your own. Make your choice intelligently, and ask to the point and accurate questions.

10. Don’t Be A Switchblade

Generally, a Switchblade is thought of a backstabber, often taking credit for someone else’s work. If you say some bad things about your previous employer, you will surely be seen as a backstabber.
