One of the most important aspects of a job interview is the job salary. Most of the times, the eager applicant ignores discussing about the job salary in order to get the job first. However, this is one of the biggest blunders that a person commits during the job interview. In this article, we have discussed some salary negotiation tips to help you bargain with the employer.

Here is a list of negotiation tips that you should keep in mind, while negotiating the job salary once the job has been offered to you:

1. Be professional

A professional attitude will not only help you to get the job, it will also enable you to get the best possible deal by the company.

2. Discuss your job salary only when the employer does

Asking about salary before the employer asks you, will make you seem immature and will give the impression that you are more interested in the money than the job.

Therefore, it is best to ask or talk about the salary only when the interviewer speaks about the salary.

3. The figures you have in mind

Don’t disclose the amount you have in mind at the beginning, as you will not have any idea about the amount of work required. Further in the meeting, you will get a clear idea about the responsibilities and then you can decide better. If you quote a lower salary at the beginning, it will be very difficult or even simply impossible to increase it later.

4. Steer clear of figures in your job interview

It is better not to directly speak about the figures of the financials. Try to find out about the salaries of the people who are working at posts closer to you and in the department that you are supposed to be working in to get a clear idea abut how much you should be getting.

5. Use a bracket instead of solid figures in the job interview

Try to use a bracket when quoting a salary amount, which starts with an amount that is a bit lower than what the employer has offered and ends a little above what the employer had offered. This way, you will convey your message and keep the avenues open when it comes to the negotiation of the salary.

6. Keep Your Emotions in Check During the job offer acceptance

Keep your emotions intact when you are offered the salary package. If the pay offered is a heavy amount that makes you very happy, make sure that you do not make it evident to the interviewer.  This may cause the interviewer to actually review whether you are worth the salary that they have in mind for you.

Accepting a job offer

While negotiating about your salary, keep in mind that the ob offer and the salary is just the beginning. If you work hard and prove yourself to the company, you can progress and do much better.

Do keep in mind that appraisals take place in a company after every six months or one year, a company simply cannot refuse you a salary increase if you work well and prove your worth.
