15 Things To Avoid At Your Job Interview
1. Show Up Unprepared
Although most candidates get many days to prepare for a job interview, sometimes they are not prepared for the interview at all. You should utilize time to freshen up your resume, and learn everything you can about the company and job for which you’re applying.

2. Pay Little Attention to Your Appearance
You might think that your appearance wouldn’t make much difference but it is important to dress up formally and look appropriate. When it comes to the job interview, it’s all about the first impression.
3. Have Nothing to Say
An interviewer will get irritated after receiving only one-syllable answers. Think thoroughly before replying and try to sell yourself by explaining your point in detail.
4. Say Too Much
Don’t exaggerate and give some time to your interviewer to talk too. If you dominate the discussion, you will give the impression of a poor listener and disrespectful to superiors.
5. Tell Jokes
Take your job interview seriously, this isn’t the time or place to be a comedian. You need to show you’re serious about the job.
6. Lie
Don’t lie about anything that is not on your resume. Be it your education, qualifications, past employment or a prison record. Lying in the beginning can prove dangerous later on.
7. Trash a Former Employer
One of the biggest mistakes that candidates make during interviews, is trash their past employer when asked about them
8. Blame Problems on Co-workers
Don’t blame any of the incidents that happened at a past place of employment, on others.
9. Act too Familiar with Your Interviewers
Don’t call your interviewers by their names. Unless you are told to do so, address them as Mr. Ms, Dr or another respectful title.
10. Give too Many Personal Details
Your personal life has nothing to do with your job. Don’t disclose unnecessary personal details.
11. Fidget, Bite your Nails, Drum your Fingers or Show Nervousness
Try to look confident, especially if you’re expected to meet with clients or give presentations.
12. Chew Gum
Never chew a chewing gum while on an interview.
13. Be Disrespectful
Don’t be disrespectful of the interviewers, even if you don’t agree with them. No business wants to hire someone who is disrespectful to others.
14. Talk on Your Cell Phone or Read Text Messages
Turn off your cell phone while the interview is going on. Your interviewer should have your complete attention.
15. Show Up Late
Be in time for your job interview. If you are stuck in an emergency such as being caught behind a traffic accident or a subway stalling, call ahead.
